Dylan Schumaker, 16, was babysitting his girlfriend Ashlee Smith’s two small kids on March 19, 2013, in Springville, New York, while she worked her shift at a restaurant. By the end of the night, one of the sons had died, and Schumaker had been arrested for murder. It was then revealed that he had murdered his older son Austin, who was just two years old.
Schumaker cried during the trial, stating he didn’t want to harm Austin and that he loved him.. However, State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller labelled him a’manipulator and deceitful’ for attempting to convince the jury via tears and sentenced him to 25 years to life in jail for the toddler’s murder.
Dylan Schumaker is now incarcerated in the Clinton Correctional Facility in New York, and he will be eligible for release in 2031.
Dylan Schumaker’s jail sentence was lowered to 18 years to life by the Court of Appeals in February 2016, putting him eligible for release in 2031 after he completes his 18 years in prison. He will, however, remain under the control of the state even after he is released.
Since his incarceration in 2014, Schumaker, now 26 years old, has served 9 years of his indeterminate sentence. He is presently spending the balance of his term at New York’s Clinton Correctional Facility.
